Welcome to Shine and thank you for taking the time to find out more about us and the journey that has lead to This Space To Shine.
I met my business partner a few years ago, and amazingly within a short time, divine grace allowed us to bring you the original Shine Wellness Space, that was located- 950 12th St New Westminster- which was once considered a very “dark” corner of this Royal City.
Though our retail endeavor did not continue in brick & mortar form; we did build a unique and intricate business model & a sought after brand, through our love for the wellness industry. Shine came about as a child of belief; the belief in the same goal of finding diamonds and giving them space to shine. Not only did we create the emphasis of the Shine concept to focus on people, education & quality information, but we built a business model without compromise for our personal values of consumer products. In the closure of the space I have continued to keep the custom branded items available, on a small scale, and look forward to continuing our theme remotely through workshops and internet locations.
For me: I have been through my own journey to wellness, that has now taken close to 10 years to come full circle. My background was a sponsored rider in the Snowboard industry and later a merchandiser and sales staff trainer in Fairmont Hotel’s Golf Division. I have also spent time as a personal trainer and a snowboard coach for up and coming riders, as well owned a brand of Streetwear -Gauge Clothing- for women in the action sports industry. Demanding so much of my physical body day after day I eventually became very “adrenaline addicted” and it is at this understanding where my journey to wellness began.
Every path is different and I cannot say that my road is something that may apply to you or your wellness needs, but after all I had been through, I felt an overwhelming call to share this journey “out loud” in some form. In the beginning, I had no idea how that was supposed to look, but perhaps just holding a space to act as a light for others who may be on a difficult journey, could be all that was required.
Chronic pain, fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid arthritis, stiff joints, dermatitis, etc ,etc, etc were all just names of “syndromes” that the medical system created to label the discomfort, and categorize me for medication purposes….but in doing this “Naming & Labeling” to validate the pain we run the risk of “settling” for that as the answer, feeling that we are somehow understood; yet knowing the diagnosis will not allow the symptoms to go away. For many, the road stops there, instead of seeking the cause of these concerns, and perhaps the lesson we are supposed to be learning through the process of healing.
Personally I do not believe in labeling dis-EASE (aka disease) of any sort; these are simply just our body’s way of talking to us and asking for HELP as loud as it can. Our “Free Will” allows us to do anything we choose, including depleting, and eventually destroying, our own bodies- by masking the physical cries with pharmaceuticals or more stimulants, continuing to push ourselves forward despite the pleas to STOP and reevaluate.
In the western world, I feel we are all addicts to adrenaline. We live on stimulating substances to keep us going hours after the day is done, which eventually leads to a tremendous imbalance of the body’s main systems. Our body is an eco-system, to disrupt one part is to disrupt the whole. Every body will react slightly differently to the imbalance , but most will start to unravel at the weakest link (often genetic) and slowly syndromes and physical difficulties will begin to appear.
There are other theories and beliefs I have come to build on throughout this journey, and all have led to an expanded awareness on many wellness topics, as well as have formed the basis for the choices of products & services we offer at Shine. I have come to understand that every piece you find is a key, and finding the combination to your own unique lock that IS the journey.
Our commitment at Shine is to offer a collection of products and services you may need on your road to health management. To Hold a safe and judgment free space for you to relax, and unwind or escape to.
…it is only a matter of time before we all get to Shine!
